The Commonplace Book Project
Monday, September 10, 2007
Illuminated Lantern Publishing has collected several Lovecraftian interactive text games, as part of its "Commonplace Book Project." Lovecraft's "Commonplace Book" was a central point where he recorded ideas for new tales. Ranging from brief to quite detailed, many of these artistic embryos went unused, but are fascinating nonetheless! The text-based games here are based on these fragments, and are largely a throwback to the early days of computer gaming. They are similar to the "choose your own adventure" stories popular with children.
I have played through one game and found it an interesting use of HPL's ideas. All in all, this is an innovative and unique little project! Check them out if you're a Lovecraft enthusiast or just have some time to kill.
