Stunning Lovecraftian Dioramas

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Donal Buckley's Flickr account contains impressive pictures of dioramas lifted right from the pages of H.P. Lovecraft. The artist's most recent hand painted miniatures are coalesced into a replica of tainted Innsmouth. These stunning photos reveal a painstakingly detailed overview of the accursed town.

Perhaps it's the snow, but these miniatures put me mind of the decorative Christmas villages one sometimes encounters in homes and stores. Of course, the artist has done a superb job of twisting what might otherwise be a sleepy little New England village into a rotten port haunted by shadowy hybrids. Unspeakable things swim in the poisoned waters, highlighting a good selection of Innsmouth demographics. Human, morphing, and fully transformed versions of the Deep Ones (as well as a few other horrors) are all generously exhibited.

Visit Donal Buckley's Flickr page above for further Lovecraftian dioramas. He has also done excellent work on "The Dunwich Horror" and "The Colour Out of Space." Delicate depictions of Yog-Sothoth and swarms of cultists can be enjoyed in high resolution. Bon appetit.
