A Cthulhu Guitar
Tuesday, November 11, 2008
Youtube's keithopulis showed off a customized guitar heavily inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's most celebrated creation. Peering from the casing of an ordinary instrument, we find the horrible visage of Cthulhu! The tentacled behemoth leers from the edge of the guitar, grasping the sides with tentacles and claws. Yes, the strings of this one could definitely play a sanity melting tune in the hands of a talented musician. Or channel something from beyond, a la Lovecraft's "The Music of Erich Zann." The appearance of a Cthulhuvian guitar is an idea whose time has come. After all, the weird and the musical have a long and interesting relationship in fiction and other forms of media. Why not marry three forms of weird art in one unholy trinity? Visual art, music, and supernatural literature. Ia. Ia. Ia.
