Hippocampus Press Release Schedule Online
Monday, November 10, 2008
Hippocampus Press has released their schedule of upcoming book releases through the rest of 2008 and into 2009. The most appetizing titles listed on their website's book schedule includes The Unknown Lovecraft, Classics and Contemporaries: Some Notes on Horror Fiction, The Letters of H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard. These are all works set to infuse the library of weird scholarship with even more breadth and discussion in the coming years. The Unknown Lovecraft collects the biggest and best pieces of Lovecraft scholarship by the pioneering mind of Kenneth W. Faig Jr. Classics and Contemporaries and The Letters of H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard are both new books produced under the watchful eye and editorial hand of senior weird scholar S.T. Joshi. Classics and Contemporaries: Some Notes on Horror Fiction will reproduce difficult to find observations from the career of S.T. Joshi on historical and current heavy hitters in the realm of weird literature. Oddly, its subtitle holds some similarity to the name of a metafictional essay on horror by Thomas Ligotti. It's unclear yet whether or not this is meaningful or intentional. Meanwhile, the new volume of edited correspondence between Lovecraft and Howard is an eagerly awaited text that will certainly appease fans of both writers. Here, for the first time, the loyal community of Lovecraft students and Howard scholars will be able to make their own conclusions about the literary development of the two men, especially in light of their influence on each other and exchange of ideas.
Sandwiched among all of this, Hippocampus continues to churn out regular journals on weird fiction. The latest volume of the Lovecraft Annual is already out, and the review publication Dead Reckonings may well see new issues too. Hippocampus Press will continue to be a major outlet of serious thought on the weird through at least 2009. Weird admirers seeking a deeper understanding of the works they read will have a buffet of sober scholarship to choose from in the near future, and this will only stir the already energetic community to further excitement in the coming year.
