Deanimator Flash Game
Monday, October 1, 2007
This past weekend, I've had occasion to play this little Deanimator flash game in my duller hours. Loosely based on Lovecraft's "Herbert West--Reanimator," it's a fun (and difficult!) flash game worthy of trying out if you have a few moments to kill. You play as a beleaguered Herbert West facing shambling, reanimated bodies coming toward you. Use your mouse to aim at the undead hordes and click to fire. As expected, the corpses get deadlier by requiring more shots to take them down, and more numerous, as the levels progress. The sound and art of the game were kept simple and shadowy, which makes for an appropriate and pleasing play experience. The 'Story' section on the game's main screen also leads to a flashy version of the text by HPL.
Tips from my own experience: Be careful about timing reloads when your weapon falls empty. Use the shift key to switch between the revolver and the powerful, though round-limited shotgun once you pick up shells for it. Also, watch for each undead abomination's weak point--there are several classes of enemies, and each type has a weak area. All classes fall in a shot or two if you get them when they are crawling out of the ground.
