Other Lovecrafts

I found this fun blurb, an alternate envisioning of HPL's life from an Alternate History website. Increasingly common in sci-fi and fantasy literature today, this sub-genre has generated a number of interesting speculative what-ifs, as in the blog where I snagged this:

"August 20, 1890: H. Philip Lovecraft was born in Providence, Rhode Island. Phil, as he was known to his friends, inherited a mysterious mansion from relatives while in his 20’s, and spent most of the rest of his short life there. He only surfaced to send manuscripts to the world of the strange goings-on at the mansion; in 1929, Phil and the mansion disappeared altogether."

Another one, in a similar format, is here:

"Howard P. Lovecraft was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He spent little of his life there, as he roamed the world in search of adventures, making his living writing novels and short stories. He practically invented the genre of the horror story, giving it such life and power that his work was in demand the world over. He died at the age of 72, falling in an attempt to climb Mount Everest."

Aaand the strangest, most far fetched, but most imaginative one yet: "The Life and Times of President Lovecraft." Here, HPL becomes President as a sort of elitist, far right leader. Good reading, though not the best match up of Lovecraft's political ideals with reality. Well, perhaps in this alternate dimension far removed from our own, anything is possible...
