Horror Masters Go 3-D

Sunday, December 30, 2007

Graphics company Meshbox recently released several computer models of both Edgar Allen Poe and H.P. Lovecraft for sale to designers. Both writers come equipped with an array of facial expressions and poses. Definitely a win for animated realism, though the overzealous bulging in Lovecraft's eyes throws me a bit. Has he developed the Innsmouth look himself? Somehow, it's quite surprising these models are only surfacing now, when the technology to render similar models was around for awhile already.

These digital figurines can be counted as welcome additions, however, presenting excellent potential for technologically literate buyers with an interest in weird horror. With a little bit of creativity and knowhow in other areas, these models should soon appear in forthcoming amateur video games, and even 3-D animated productions of the authors' stories. Meshbox's forums contain further sample images of the 3-D Poe here, and the 3-D Lovecraft here.
