Bradbury's Lovecraft Parody

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

The tireless collector of everything H.P. Lovecraft, from his greatest works to his slightest marginalia, Chris Perridas, posted major selections from an excellent and noteworthy parody of HPL's style over at "The Horror Library Blog." Written in 1950 by estimable fantasist Ray Bradbury, this humorous tale entitled "The Exiles" had the 600 word Lovecraft segment removed in finalized editions. A shame, really, since it includes an ice cream gulping HPL having a brief exchange with none other than Poe and Bierce, while frantically working on his epistles.

It's a comical footnote to the astounding career of a great writer still among us, whose affection for Lovecraft probably has not waned much from the early days of his artistry.
