Cthulhu in Weird Claymation Piece
Friday, February 22, 2008
This weird animated claymation short with features the right mix of animate statues, an unsettling musical background, and Cthulhu to give it noteworthy effect. The unnatural movements of the clay figures and the grayish color scheme are heavily suggestive of dream-like cinematography, which only enhances the bizarre quality. Interestingly, Great Cthulhu is the only thing appearing in the piece in full vibrant color. In another dream-like twist, the scenes and clay creatures seem only vaguely related, but it isn't too much a stretch to see the dungeonish backdrop as an extension of R'lyeh.
Rojhelio Studios is responsible for the production. The unique music was originally done by Mr. Bungle, an experimental rock and metal group who enjoyed their heyday in the '90s.
