The King in Yellow: Interludes

Details are somewhat scant (at least in English), but it looks like an excellent Italian film is on the way infused with Lovecraftian and Yellow themes. "Il Re Giallo: Interludi" or "The King in Yellow: Interludes" mixes a gritty European cinema style with two giants of weird fiction. "Interludes" appears to be off to a running start, with some deliciously eerie scenes in the trailer posted below. Several images posted on the movie's website also suggest a few grotesques that have passed through Japanese horror: flayed skin and tattered, pasty girls. However, unlike most J-Horror productions these days, it looks like these terrors will be put to unique use.
Curious scenes and queer creatures visible in the film's concept art (definitely worth a look the site) suggest a very good adaptation of Robert W. Chamber's overriding mood: madness! The King in Yellow text, after all, is a multi-dimensional electrode jammed into the skull of its reader. Aside from creature design, it's unclear at this point what specifically Lovecraftian elements will be incorporated into "Interludes." Yet again, it's interesting to see H.P. Lovecraft and Robert W. Chambers bound so closely together. For good or ill, it seems increasingly unlikely an independent "Yellow" mythos will ever emerge from under the shadow of Lovecraft's Yog-Sothery. Having a hearty "Yellow" niche in Lovecraftiana, however, is just as good!
