An Amateur Comic of Lovecraft's "The Shadow Over Innsmouth"
Tuesday, October 28, 2008
Artist Sam Bosma has posted production art for an upcoming illustrated book based on H.P. Lovecraft's "The Shadow Over Innsmouth." It appears to be Bosma's project for a class, but the pending graphic novel isn't bad by a long shot. He may also release the completed version of the "Innsmouth" comic online and in an anthology called Popgun 3. Once again, the magic of the internet is at work in bringing us small press graphic renditions of Lovecraft pieces that would otherwise receive very minimal attention. Thanks to the internet, professionals in any field of art can be more easily molded (or at least financially supported) by gaining sufficient momentum from admirers.
Bosma's other paintings and sketches posted on his blog are worth viewing as well. Many of them bare a clear resemblance to the elegant style of dark, weird atmosphere. If even a small percentage of art program graduates can translate works of weird horror to visual art as capably as Mr. Bosma, then that sub-genre of art will remain in good hands. Hopefully, this won't be the last Lovecraftian piece from this artist either.
