A Cthulhu Idol Given to the Waves
Monday, November 17, 2008
Madguten uploaded a photographic slideshow of a journey to the beach where a Cthulhu idol was committed to the waves. Though not terribly spectacular in special effects or anything, this amateur piece has some very scenic pictures. The fresh sea rolling over Cthulhu's statue evokes some strong imagery right out of H.P. Lovecraft's original stories. Deep Ones, the nightmarish journey of a particular Cthulhu idol in "The Call of Cthulhu," and every dark corner of the world where a cult devoted to R'lyeh ever has or ever could dwell springs to mind. Despite his interstellar origin, Cthulhu is firmly associated with the sea--a concept August Derleth took a little too far in his elemental variant of the Cthulhu Mythos--due to his entombment in the sunken city. The photographer understands this much and ought to be commended for snapping some great shots of an ominous idol in prime position to summon all sorts of extra-dimensional devils from the waters.
