Today, going into the ground before your pulse has stopped is a very unlikely outcome, particularly in Western nations where embalming is common. If you aren't dead by the time they cart you off to be prepared for the hungry ground, then the preservatives will finish you. This need not apply to the third world, where actual burial alive is (or should be) a very real fear.
Still, instances like these show how incredibly close some individuals come to being prematurely interned in modern times, and how horrifying these instances can be.
