Update: The Nightmare Factory Graphic Novel
Saturday, September 1, 2007
Well, as the general release date for Thomas Ligotti's first comic adaptation draws near, some stunning previews have surfaced. First, it appears the comic will be released on September 4th next week, although you can already order it from Barnes & Noble's website and some other online sources. Several more details have emerged about the graphic novel as well. It will include 112 pages of quality art and adaptations of four Ligotti tales. Not three, as earlier thought. The selected stories are "TheLast Feast of Harlequin," "Doctor Locrian's Asylum," "Dream of a Mannikan," and (possibly) "Teatro Grottesquo." It will retail for around $17.99 US.
Video game and film website IGN, which occasionally reviews comics, has put up a brief review of this work. Eight aesthetically beautiful pages of terror are posted for your viewing pleasure.
"The Nightmare Factory" writer, Stuart Moore, has also posted some wonderful black and white preview pages from his adaptation of "The Last Feast of Harlequin" on his blog. I imagine these have been inked in, but if not, it's no great loss. The black and white images detailed seem fitting enough!
Like most of you, I'm eagerly awaiting this early attempt at rendering Mr. Ligotti's philosophical horror into visual media. And, of course, you can expect a review of it here soon after it appears.
