2007 HP Lovecraft Film Festival Winners

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

The 2007 winners of the prestigious "Howie" and "Brown Jenkin" awards given at the recent HP Lovecraft Film Festival are up. Appropriately, the award statues are shaped like their namesakes--the HP Lovecraft Award or "Howie" is a bust of Lovecraft, and the Brown Jenkin award a grotesque rendering of the witch's familiar from "The Dreams in the Witch House." The 2007 winners are:

  • The H. P. Lovecraft Award, awarded to artist Bernie Wrightson
  • The H. P. Lovecraft Award, awarded to composer Richard Band
  • The H. P. Lovecraft Award, awarded to director John Carpenter
  • The Brown Jenkin Award (Audience Pick for Best Short), awarded to Gary Irwin for Of Darkness
  • The Brown Jenkin Award, awarded to Daniel Gildark for Cthulhu
  • The Brown Jenkin Award, awarded to Balaji K. Kumar for 9 Lives of Mara
  • The Brown Jenkin Award, awarded to Shawn Linden for Nobody
Winners the previous two years include:

2006
  • The H. P. Lovecraft Award, awarded to author Ramsey Campbell
  • The H. P. Lovecraft Award, awarded to author Robert Price
  • The Brown Jenkin Award, awarded to Raymond Zablocki for Binding Silence
  • The Brown Jenkin Award, awarded to Paul von Stoetzel for Asleep in the Deep
  • The Brown Jenkin Award, awarded to Michael Granberry for From Beyond

2005

  • The H. P. Lovecraft Award, awarded to actor Christopher Heyerdahl
  • The Brown Jenkin Award (Best of Festival), awarded to the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society for The Call of Cthulhu
  • The Brown Jenkin Award (Audience Pick), awarded to the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society for The Call of Cthulhu
No complaints here. The awarding committee acted accordingly in giving both trophies to worthy contributors of the Lovecraftian and the weird.
