New "The Whisperer in Darkness" Movie Trailer!

More wonderful news for the Lovecraft admirer in cinema! The HPLHS (HP Lovecraft Historical Society) has just put up a trailer for their latest film, "The Whisperer in Darkness." The site includes several size and quality options, all in Quicktime. It seems to take awhile to load in almost any size, however, so be wary. Like their 2005 surprise hit, a silent rendition of "The Call of Cthulhu," it will be a piece set in the appropriate time and place, following Lovecraft's original tale as thoroughly as possible. Like "The Call of Cthulhu," it will also be a black and white motion picture, and quite possibly a silent one again (or at least, 1920s style placards used in place of dialogue). Although, by contrast, the voices in the trailer emanating from the phonograph, including the hideous Mi-Go buzzing--one of the shining weird effects of HPL's story--may imply this one will not be silent. Time will tell.

It's the opinion of this blogger that "The Call of Cthulhu" effectively used black and white settings and period characteristics effectively enough to qualify it as one of the best Lovecraftian films to date. This preview makes the film look very promising indeed. Slated for release next year, if it holds up to earlier HPLHS standards of quality eeriness, it should be another proud addition to the cinematic world of Lovecraft. Here's hoping to Yuggoth!
