New "Cloverfield" Trailer
Monday, November 19, 2007
The J. J. Abram's film known as "Cloverfield," which attracted much recent speculation, now has a new trailer up on its main site here. Set for a release on January 18th of next year, the movie was originally thought by some to be a Cthulhuvian piece. Currently, it seems more likely to be a monster film in the vein of a modernized Godzilla. Whatever else, "Cloverfield" has scored viral marketing victories for months by its mysterious nature. Abram's and his team helped cultivate this mythic quality by using bizarre, seemingly unconnected websites, as well as the teaser previews that do not show the beast nor delve too deeply into plot.
Of the stranger websites posted in this project, Slusho! ranks near the top. A cartoony site for an allegedly Japanese-produced drink whose specialty is a secret sea ingredient, it wouldn't be very apparent that Slusho has anything to do with the film at all, if not for some careful web sleuthing by dedicated fans seeking to unravel "Cloverfield." Two more months will reveal whether or not the film lives up to its hype.
