"In Search of Lovecraft" Nearing Completion
Wednesday, February 27, 2008
Film music composer Troy Sterling posted clips on his blog of the title score and another musical sample he did for the upcoming film, "In Search of Lovecraft." He also confirmed the movie is slated for a release no later than the middle of this year. Both musical pieces selected here sound appropriately atmospheric and eerie, so it will certainly be interesting to see what scenes surface using them.
This music isn't the only unique claim of this particular film. Most notably, "In Search of Lovecraft" purports to include a real occult ritual in its plot. If done properly, this ambitious feature ought to either boost the authentic creepiness of Old Ones' minions, or cheapen the production by relying too much on Cthulhu cultists. It is, at least, an intriguing move that may help "In Search of Lovecraft" overcome the critical acceptability bar set for Lovecraftian movies by a glut of sub-par and irrelevant movies claiming to be "Lovecraftian." This is often doubly difficult for low budget productions like this one. The film's site has a gallery of images from shooting and production here, though they give little indication of how well the enterprise is going thus far. Hopefully, we'll find out in several more months, if scheduling stays on course, letting this one take its place among other promising Lovecraftian pictures to be released in 2008.
