"Strange Aeons" Now on Sale

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

This week, Lurker Films officially released "Strange Aeons," constituting volume five of their celebrated H.P. Lovecraft Collection of movies. This one, as noted previously on Grim Reviews, features the Maelstrom Productions version of "The Thing on the Doorstep" as its main course. Side dishes, as on previous DVDs, are also scrumptious: "Maria's Hubris" and an animated adaption of "From Beyond." "Maria's Hubris" is a short film from Germany, and appeared at the 2006 H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland. It's a unique horror piece involving twists in an old friendship, with a few Lovecraftian undertones right out of "The Thing on the Doorstep." An interview with John Carpenter, director of "The Thing," on Lovecraft's influence rounds out the menu on this disc.

"Strange Aeons" can be found alongside the predecessor collections at Arkham Bazaar, for the reasonable price of $20. Due to the rising interest generated in H.P. Lovecraft's works, thanks mostly to the internet this last decade, Lurker Films appears to be expanding. Presumably, that also means higher profits, and perhaps the ability to churn out further productions of weird mastery. The promising selection placed on "Strange Aeons" strongly implies the company's quality is remaining high, or even increasing. Let it remain so!
