Parade of Pulps

This Vault of Evil forum thread is currently archiving a stunning collection of pulp covers from publications prior to 2000. Some of these periods from the 1980s and 1990s were a booming period for small presses, rivaled only by the mix of quality and quantity in the community today. Thomas Ligotti, D.F. Lewis, the Cthulhu Mythos, and major scholarly zines of weird fiction like "Crypt of Cthulhu" were all showcased and raised to new heights during this time. Interestingly, many of these covers appear to be small press publications scanned from the personal collection of D.F. Lewis, a prolific author of short weird, literary, and horror fiction.
The art and possible literary gems lurking inside any of these ephemeral journals of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy are worth the price of admission alone. Many of us can only be left with lofty visions of stumbling upon these for a bargain in some nameless back room clearing house, or in the depths of Ebay. Fortunately and unfortunately, the rareness of more than a few of the publications exhibited here, as well as the supreme collectibility of some (raising their price dramatically today), prohibits easy acquisition. For those of us with an appreciation of mystery, at least we're provided with a fitting consolation prize: increased admiration for immense pulp collections like those archived on Vault of Evil, and lingering dreams of what lies within their pages.
