Bizarre Cthulhuvian Artifacts from The Stygian Depths

The Stygian Depths is one more promotional site for the fluid underground business of churning out Lovecraftian statues. It is, however, not just one more website showcasing run of the mill Cthulhu statues. Rather, the art here produced by Quinn Alan Poppe are sculptures with the seemingly unconscious look of real artifacts straight out of H.P. Lovecraft's tales. Perhaps it's the careful attention to detail by the artist, mixed with an effective understanding of Mythos entities sufficient to replicate twisted versions of their likeness. Or maybe it's the production of original Lovecraftian things that don't just slavishly copy Cthulhu or Yog-Sothoth, but rather use them as starting points for original horrors (like the idol of "Chaugnar Faugnh" pictured above). It might even be the peculiar hint of oriental and Medieval Western reliquary evident in many pieces.
Whatever the case, Stygian Depths does a superb job of recycling the cosmic horror of Lovecraft's pioneering weirdness into grotesque works of metal, crystal, and stone. The catalog of artifacts over at The Stygian Depths highlighting idols, relics, and arcane tomes also adds a highly creative touch to their presentation. For every item listed in the gallery, a small shards of history and fictional detail lifted from Yog-Sothothry and the Poppe's own mind are given. As with most sites in this realm, the artist is both marketing and flexing his talents. Virtually every item pictured is for sale, and any of them would make fine decor for the weird admirer.
