Lovecraft Photos Update: Part IV
Wednesday, May 7, 2008
It's been sometime since I've had the privilege of posting any lesser circulated images of H.P. Lovecraft. Now, thanks to this recent post from Chris Perridas' excellent "H.P. Lovecraft and His Legacy" blog, an update is in order. According to Perridas, this page with two rare photos of Lovecraft and Frank Belknap Long together was originally produced as a marketing flyer for Long. In the top photo, Lovecraft and Long both appear in stylish hats from the period. And both pictures serve as something of a gauge for the weird master's stature--or Long's lack thereof.
Images like this are a delight for the collector of Lovecraftian ephemera, and certainly don't appear everyday. I will continue to utilize "Grim Reviews" as an online repository for the less common photographs of H.P. Lovecraft. Hopefully, renewed interest in these items will generate a drive toward a comprehensive HPL photo book--or even turn up new never-before-seen pictures from someone's musty attic! We can only dream.
