New Definitive Lovecraft Book in the Works?
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
Online rumors are swirling that scholar S.T. Joshi has signed on with Barnes and Noble to publish a definitive book (or series of tomes) containing H.P. Lovecraft's full original fiction. Unfortunately, this seemingly excludes the possibility of his revisionist works and the vast bulk of his poetry. The book may appear by the end of this year. Even if it only includes Lovecraft's core stories, it presents yet another tantalizing avenue for the slow, but steady popularization of HPL's fiction. The traditionally competitive pricing of B&N editions of classic writings makes this even more the case. It may also prove a heavy source of free market pressure in the fluxing whirlpool of publishers like Del Rey and Arkham House, responsible for much of Lovecraft's published works in recent years.
