Lovecraft Documentary Wins Big at Comic-Con 2008
Monday, July 28, 2008
Wyrdstuff's documentary on the life and influence of H.P. Lovecraft beat out strong competition to win first place at San Diego's annual Comic-Con this past weekend. "Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown" is an upcoming work that includes a heady list of commentators. Buzz about this film continues to be quite positive, and one look at the array of scholars, writers, and producers on the stylish poster above tells why. The exciting collection of experts and artists all but assure this production intelligence, insight, and wit.
No official word yet on when this documentary will be released, but its knockout performance at Comic-Con suggests it's well into post-production. This is certainly the most promising Lovecraft documentary looming since "The Eldritch Influence" appeared in 2005. Interestingly, that film included a great deal of commentary from the same luminaries interviewed in "Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown." It may well be the best Lovecraft documentary to date. The historic competition for Lovecraft documentaries remains small, but able enough to prune failures. For a trailer of this forthcoming documentary, see here.
