"Jihad Over Innsmouth" Reading from Pseudopod

A creative new audio tale is available from Pseudopod.org, the growing archive of original weird stories set to narration and presented for download to hard drive or MP3 player. Edward Morris' "Jihad Over Innsmouth" is an intriguing Cthulhu Mythos tale that mixes politics with pop culture and Lovecraftiana. Ben Philips renders the story a spot on reading that captures the action and complex terror of Morris' prose. This is a piece that almost screamed for audio production, and luckily, Pseudopod has answered.
As a Cthulhu Mythos tale, Morris avoids the pastiche concepts and imagery that plagues many others, particularly those set in Innsmouth. Transformed are the mysterious Deep Ones into political stereotypes and modernized fears. While some H.P. Lovecraft readers may be disappointed with the modernization of Innsmouth horror, they should find equal delight in the richness of Edward Morris' writing. The talented author carries his tale very much in the spirit of Lovecraft and other weird writers, helping it retain a familiar flavor even though it aims at stirring a very different type of fear and meaning than Lovecraft himself conveyed.
