"The Book Dealers" Animated Short

"The Book Dealers" is an animated short created by Andrew Jones of Never Knows Best Animation, which showed at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival last weekend. It makes some very obvious mentions of Lovecraftian places, and centers around a strange book inspired by the Necronomicon. Interestingly, this animation incorporates Steam Punk aspects into its otherwise Cthulhu Mythos heavy atmosphere. As the HPL Film Festival website itself notes:

In 1893, two book dealers arrive at a prairie home to pick-up their latest occult acquisition. They discover a dark supernatural force has been unleashed upon the home's owners and use turn of the century technology to exorcise the eldritch evil. A Steam-Punk tale inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft.

Steam Punk and Lovecraftian Horror have met in cross-genre fiction before, but rarely in film, let alone a cartoon. It's just one of the many pleasant curiosities to come rolling out of the Film Festival, and perhaps one that will eventually worm its way onto DVD.
