Collapse Volume IV Release Imminent
Friday, May 2, 2008
The eagerly awaited fourth volume of "Collapse," Urbanomic's UK based journal of philosophy, is nearing a mid May release date. This enticing issue will feature brainy articles penned by a variety of weird writers and other scholars on the subject of horror and philosophy. Most notably, significant pages in the journal are devoted to Thomas Ligotti. There is an essay by James Trafford intriguingly denoted "The Illusion of a Puppet Dance: Metzinger, Ligotti, and the Illusion of Selfhood." More importantly, however, Ligotti himself will have a featured piece mixing original commentary with a significant preview of his current non-fiction project, The Conspiracy Against the Human Race.
A delightful mixture of the "New Weird" with the classic is also slated to be printed here. Who could turn down an article by the rising star of feverishly politicized weird fiction, China Mieville, on the ghost stories of M.R. James? Additionally, new observations by Michael Houellebecq--widely praised in recent years for his H.P. Lovecraft: Against the World, Against Life--are forthcoming in his submission, "Poems." As if that weren't enough, there's even new scholarship on the ideological intertwining of Lovecraft and Husserl.
All in all, "Collapse IV: Concept Horror" is shaping up to be a collector's trophy. It is available for pre-order on the publisher's website linked above. Best of all, however, is the fourteen page .pdf preview containing the editor's introduction available here.
