Boom! Announces Necronomicon Comic
Thursday, June 12, 2008
Beginning in August, comic publisher Boom! Studios is putting out a four issue mini-series focused around H.P. Lovecraft's Necronomicon. This follows closely on the heels of the publisher's success in previous Lovecraftian endeavors. Their ongoing "Fall of Cthulhu" and "Cthulhu Tales" series have sold well, and generated acclaim in both comic and horror circles. "Necronomicon" will delve into the history of the accursed tome, following a college student at Miskatonic University in the 1920s. Henry Said, charged with uncovering the nefarious text, is set for an education in terror as he travels around sites related to the Necronomicon's composition. His discoveries are expected to breathe new life and understanding into the dark life of the book's author, Abdul Alhazred.
Boom's "Necronomicon" will surely feature the same great art prominent in their previous Cthulhu 'zines. What plot line the mini-series will follow, however, won't be clear until the first issue. Ideally, Boom! will embellish our existing revulsion of the crazed book with an original story. Further speculation on the origins of the Necronomicon are welcome, especially if they're wise enough to draw off Lovecraft's original 1927 article, "A History of the Necronomicon."
