Newish Thomas Ligotti Interview from Horror Garage
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Mark McLaughlin from the magazine "Horror Garage" recently interviewed Thomas Ligotti about "The Frolic" short film and other matters. As in most interviews, Mr. Ligotti is sharp, informative, and brutally honest about his own work and the horrors of life. McLaughlin poses Ligotti several intriguing questions on other tales the author would like to see translated to film, his upcoming literary projects, and what he's having for dinner.
Ligotti's story selection for a future movie is particularly interesting: "My Work Is Not Yet Done." His novella of corporate horror and retribution is one of the more realistic, less abstract works produced thus far. Like "The Frolic," its realism lends itself more easily to cinema. Bearing in mind this practicality, I can't help but agree with the weird writer. "My Work Is Not Yet Done," though less dreamy like other Ligotti stories, still contains an inimitable stamp of Thomas Ligotti's philosophical vision and his nightmares.
"The Frolic" short was released by Wonder Entertainment earlier this year. It's the first Ligotti piece to chill the screen. See my earlier review and synopsis of this picture for further information.
